Remote recording platform
Also called: Riverside, SquadCast, local recording platform
On a normal video call, what you hear has already been compressed and has already dropped packets, and recording the call captures all of that permanently. Remote recording platforms such as Riverside and SquadCast run the conversation as a call while recording each participant's camera and microphone on their own device at full quality, then upload those files in the background. You end up with separate tracks per person, which you can edit and mix individually. The failure mode is the upload. If a guest closes the browser tab before their files finish transferring, you are left with the low-quality backup, so keep everyone on until the platform confirms it is done.
