Keyword research
Also called: topic research, search research
Keyword research means finding the wording people use when they go looking for something, then judging which of those phrases a video can realistically win. Creators pull terms from search autocomplete, from the questions in their own comments, and from third-party tools that estimate monthly search volume. Google Trends filtered to YouTube search shows relative interest in a topic before you commit to making anything. Two warnings. Volume estimates from different tools disagree wildly for the same phrase, so treat them as rough ordering and never as counts. And this work tells you what people want to watch, which puts it at the idea stage, well before the title.
