Two copyrights sit inside a song. The recording belongs to the label, and the composition, meaning the melody and lyrics, belongs to the publisher and songwriter. Content ID fingerprints both. Melody matching identifies the tune even when the audio is a live performance, a cover or your own re-recording, so playing a song yourself does not escape a claim. What usually follows is monetisation of your video on the publisher's behalf rather than a strike, so cover channels often run with a claim on every video they post.
