Misinformation policy

Also called: medical misinformation policy, elections misinformation policy

YouTube runs three related policy sets. The general misinformation rules cover technically manipulated media presented as real, and content that interferes with democratic processes. The medical rules are organised into prevention, treatment and denial, and apply where a video contradicts guidance from local health authorities or the World Health Organization on specific conditions, treatments or substances. The elections rules cover doctored footage, old footage passed off as current, and interference with voting or census participation. All of them allow exceptions where a video carries educational, documentary, scientific or artistic context, which is how news coverage and debunking stay up. Enforcement here moves with events, so read the current policy pages instead of what applied two years ago.
