Membership Churn
Also called: member churn, churn rate, cancellation rate
Divide the members lost during a month by the members you had at the start of it. A channel adding fifty and losing sixty is going backwards, however strong the launch looked. Track it next to how long the average member stays, because the two together tell you what one member is worth over a lifetime.
The mistake is designing the offer around the moment of joining. A perk that can be collected once, such as a file or a single video, pulls a sign-up and then a cancellation a month later. What holds people is a perk that only exists while they stay: a monthly call, an ongoing series, a place the community actually gathers. The value has to keep arriving.
