Negative space

Empty area does real work in a composition. In a thumbnail it gives text somewhere to sit without crossing a face, lets the subject breathe, and hands the eye a clear landing point. It also survives scaling: a busy frame that reads fine at full size turns to mush in a sidebar or on a phone. Keep the bottom right corner clear of anything you need people to read, since the duration pill sits over it.
