Power law

Borrowed from statistics, a power law describes any distribution where the top few entries dwarf everything under them and the fall from first place to tenth is brutally steep. City sizes, wealth and book sales all take roughly that shape, and so do the view counts in most video libraries, where a handful of uploads hold the bulk of the total and the rest sit in a long flat line.

Two cautions. The 80/20 label attached to the idea is a rule of thumb, so nobody should expect their own numbers to land on those figures. And the shape only describes what has already happened. It says nothing about which of your next ten uploads becomes the one that carries the year.
