Monetisation & Revenue

Revenue Share

Also called: revenue split, 55/45 split, platform revenue sharing

On standard YouTube ad revenue, creators receive around 55 per cent and YouTube keeps the remaining 45 per cent after fees. Shorts work differently. Ad revenue from the Shorts feed is pooled, music licensing is paid out of that pool first, and creators keep 45 per cent of what remains, allocated by each creator's share of Shorts views. Revenue share only describes how the advertiser's spend gets split. It tells you nothing about how much advertisers were willing to pay for your audience in the first place, which is where most of the variation between channels actually lives.
