Series bible

Also called: show bible, format bible, channel bible

A series bible writes down what makes an episode belong: the premise, the constraints, the running order, the recurring segments, the on-screen conventions, and the lines the show does not cross. Television has used them for decades to keep a writers' room consistent. Channels need them for the same reason once more than one person touches an upload, or once the creator has made forty episodes and can no longer remember what was decided in episode three. It is also the document that makes an editor or a researcher hire-able, because it turns taste held in one head into instructions somebody else can follow.
