Shot matching

Two cameras rarely agree out of the box, and neither does the same camera under a window at 9am and at 4pm. Matching means bringing them to a common baseline: exposure first, then white balance, then contrast and saturation, judged on scopes rather than by eye, because a monitor lies to you once you have stared at it for an hour. Colourists pick one shot as the reference and pull everything else to it before any creative grade goes on top. Even on a single-camera talking head it pays, because a jump in skin tone between takes reads as a mistake.
