Swatting

Also called: swat

The caller invents a hostage situation, a shooting or a bomb threat at the target's address so an armed response is dispatched, then the attacker watches it unfold on the victim's own stream. It is a criminal offence, it has caused deaths, and prosecutions carry serious sentences.

Streamers reduce the risk by keeping their address out of every public record, using a business address for registrations, stripping location data from photos, delaying the live feed, and in some cases telling local police they are a likely target. Anyone who has been doxxed should assume this is possible, since an address is the only thing an attacker needs.
