Writers publish by email and on the web, readers pay monthly or yearly if they want to, and the platform takes a percentage of subscription revenue on top of payment processing. The network is what separates it from a plain email tool. Recommendations, an app feed and short posts push readers from one publication into another. For a video creator that cuts both ways, because the network deciding who sees your writing is itself a recommendation system, which is the dependency you were hedging against.
