Viewing session
Also called: watch session, session, YouTube session
A viewing session is the run of watching either side of your video: what pulled the viewer onto the platform, what they watched before you, and whether they carried on afterwards. YouTube Analytics does not show you a session as such, so the practical traces are traffic sources, which videos yours follows, and whether your other work appears next. The idea gets over-applied. Older advice claimed session length is the one thing the algorithm rewards, which overstates a system that weights signals differently by content type, device and context. Thinking in sessions is still useful for planning what a viewer should watch next.
