Counter-notification

Also called: counter notice, DMCA counter-notice

When a copyright owner has a video removed, the uploader's route back is a counter-notification. It carries the weight of a legal filing. You state under penalty of perjury that the material was taken down by mistake or misidentification, you consent to a court's jurisdiction, and your name and contact details are passed to the party who filed the takedown. If they do not start legal action inside the statutory window, the video is restored. That structure is what makes it serious, because filing one on material you have no right to use invites a lawsuit from somebody who now holds your address.
