Creator beef

Also called: beef, feud

Beef is conflict as content. It escalates through response videos, subtweets, receipts and third-party commentary, and it draws numbers because an audience will watch an argument it has no stake in. Commentary and drama channels run almost entirely on this supply. The upside is obvious and the costs are quieter. Views arrive from people who came for the fight and leave with it, sponsors steer clear of anyone in an ongoing public row, and a beef can outlast the reason it started by years. Creators who make a habit of it become known for the arguing, which is a much harder thing to shake off than a format.
