Monetisation & Revenue

Gifted Memberships

Also called: gift memberships, gifting memberships

A viewer buys a batch of channel memberships and YouTube allocates them to other people watching, who get member perks for that period without paying. The gifter is named in chat, recipients are announced as they land, and on a live stream it tends to set off a run of further gifting. Revenue splits 70/30 in the creator's favour, the same as any other membership. Memberships have to be switched on first, which arrives with the 500 subscriber tier of the Partner Programme. One thing to watch. Gifted runs lapse when the period ends unless the recipient chooses to continue, so a big night flatters this month far more than the next one.
