Instagram grid

Also called: the grid, grid post, IG grid, grid aesthetic

Someone landing on your profile sees the grid before anything else, so the top rows work as a portfolio whether you planned them that way or not. Posts stay there permanently. That is what separates them from Stories, which vanish after 24 hours. Instagram changed the crop in 2025 and now previews the grid as portrait tiles, so square-first planning no longer holds up. Some creators design the arrangement itself, splitting one image across three columns or alternating post types so the page has a shape when a stranger lands on it.
