Twitch carved it out of the old IRL category in 2018 and it grew into one of the platform's most watched, which surprised people who assumed the site was about games. The format has almost no structure. A streamer talks, reads chat, reacts to things on screen and takes the session wherever the audience pushes it.
That looseness is the difficulty. With no gameplay to fall back on, dead air is yours to fill, and a slow chat leaves nothing to bounce off. Streamers who do well in the category usually bring a loose agenda, a topic list or a co-host.
