Location scouting
Also called: location scout, recce, scouting a location
Go at the hour you plan to film. A car park that is empty on a Tuesday morning fills at three, the sun that lit the wall beautifully at ten has moved by two, and the quiet corner sits under a flight path from noon.
Work through the practical list while you are there: where the power is, whether there is a socket you can reach, how loud the room is with the air conditioning running, what the phone signal is like, where you would put a light, who you need to ask, and what it costs. Photograph everything, including the ceiling and the floor.
