Other Platforms & Creator Culture
Nebula
Launched in 2019, Nebula hosts ad-free exclusives and extended cuts from a curated group of channels, weighted heavily towards video essays and educational work. Creators hold equity alongside Standard, the company that built and operates it. That is where the creator-owned description comes from, and they are paid out of subscription revenue according to how much their work gets watched. It exists as a hedge against depending entirely on advertising on one platform, and the channels on it use YouTube to sell it. Joining is by invitation. In practice it is a partnership between established channels rather than somewhere any creator can upload.
