Outline

Also called: video outline, script outline, skeleton

Between the idea and the script sits the outline: the beats in the order a viewer will meet them, usually a page or less. Most people write it as headers with a line underneath each. The value is in how cheap it is to change: move a section, cut a section, or spot that the payoff arrives too late, all before you have written the sentences that make you defensive about keeping them. For talking-head work the outline is often the whole plan and the script never appears at all. Some people speak better from bullets than from prose. The test to apply is whether a stranger could read it and tell you what the video promises.
