Public Stories and Spotlight, its vertical swipe feed, are the surfaces where reach happens, and Snap Star is the verified status that unlocks the rest. Snap runs a monetisation programme paying a share of ad revenue against public Stories and Spotlight posts over a minute long, with eligibility thresholds that shift often enough to be worth checking rather than remembering. The audience skews younger than YouTube's or Facebook's, which is the reason to be there or to skip it. Posting the same vertical cut everywhere and expecting Snapchat to behave like the others is the usual disappointment.
