The format runs on a visible timer. Each subscription, gift or tip extends it by a set amount, so the audience collectively decides how long the streamer stays live, and the broadcast ends only when the clock reaches zero. Runs of several days are ordinary and the famous ones have gone on for weeks. The pull for viewers is the shared stake in keeping it alive, plus the tension of watching the number fall. The cost falls on the streamer, whose sleep becomes either part of the broadcast or a short scheduled gap, which is why most people who attempt one now set a hard cap before going live.
