Threads launched in July 2023 as Meta's answer to X, built on the Instagram account graph so signing up took one tap for anybody who already had one. Posts run to 500 characters and carry images, video, polls and links. For creators the draw is reach without a following, since the feed leans on recommendation more than on who you follow, which means a cold account can still be seen. The trade is that it rewards frequent short posting and conversation in replies, so a channel treating it as a place to drop upload links tends to get very little back.
