Trendjacking

Also called: trend jacking, trend hijacking, riding a trend

Trendjacking is timing. A format, a sound, a controversy or a news event creates a spike of people looking for something, and you put a video into that gap while the gap exists. Done well it introduces a channel to viewers who would never have found it otherwise. Done badly it leaves you with a catalogue nobody will ever search for again and an audience that subscribed for the trend and leaves with it. The judgement call is whether you have anything to add. A take that only exists because the topic was hot reads exactly like one, and the window closes faster than most production schedules allow.
