Planning, Scripting & Ideas
Two-column script
Also called: AV script, A/V script, split-page script
Advertising, corporate video and documentary have used this layout for decades: video on the left, audio on the right, rows lined up so each shot sits beside the words spoken over it. It suits work where the pictures are planned in advance. It also makes gaps obvious, since an audio row with nothing beside it is a stretch of video where no visual has been decided.
Most YouTube creators write in a single column and manage fine, because the talking head is the visual. The two-column layout earns its place on anything heavily illustrated: explainers, animation, sponsored segments, tutorials cut to a screen recording.
