Subs come in three tiers at ascending prices, and viewers can buy one for themselves, gift them to others, or use the free monthly sub bundled with Amazon Prime. In return the channel gives custom emotes, a badge, subscriber-only chat and similar perks.

The standard arrangement gives the streamer half the listed price and Twitch the rest, and the Partner Plus programme raises the streamer's share for channels that qualify. Regional pricing means a headline sub count converts to very different money on different channels. Gifted subs expire on their own schedule, which is why a big gifting night shows up as churn a month later.
