Vertical video

Also called: portrait video

Every short-form feed runs on it. Shorts, Reels and TikTok all present video full screen in portrait, and on YouTube a vertical or square upload of up to three minutes can be treated as a Short.

Shooting vertical changes the frame more than people expect. There is very little room either side of a subject, so wide establishing shots stop working. Two people side by side no longer fit, text and faces have to sit in the middle band that survives interface overlays, and anything you plan to reframe for a horizontal cut later needs headroom you did not need before. Filming horizontally and cropping later throws away most of the frame.
