Analytics, Retention & Metrics

Average views per video

Also called: average video views

Divide total views by number of uploads and you get a rough baseline. Creators use it to size up a single video, because 40,000 views means very little until you know the channel normally does 12,000 or normally does 300,000. Two traps sit in it. A mean gets dragged upwards by one outlier, so a median describes most channels better, and views keep accruing for months, so a video posted last week is being measured against videos that have had years to collect them. A rolling window of your last ten or twelve uploads at a similar age is the fairer comparison.
