DMCA takedown notice

The sender identifies the material and swears to owning the rights. YouTube removes the video and issues a copyright strike against the channel, which carries penalties of its own. Different from a Content ID claim, which is automated, usually just redirects the revenue and produces no strike at all. A takedown can be answered with a counter-notification, though that hands your contact details to the sender and starts a clock: if they do not file a court action within roughly ten to fourteen business days, the video goes back up. Filing either a notice or a counter-notice you know to be false carries real legal liability, which is why neither is a casual move.
