Dynamic Ad Insertion
Also called: DAI, dynamically inserted ads
The episode is stored with marked slots in place of finished adverts. When a listener requests it, the server assembles a copy carrying whichever adverts are currently sold for that slot, which can vary by country, device or date. Two consequences follow. Advertisers can buy the back catalogue, so an episode keeps earning long after release. And a host read baked permanently into the recording, the older approach, cannot be changed once the file ships. Listeners occasionally notice the seams when a stitched advert cuts in at an odd volume or lands mid-sentence.
