Engaged views
Also called: engaged view
Since 31 March 2025 a Short counts a plain view the moment it starts or replays, with no minimum watch time, which is how other short-form apps count. The older definition needed the viewer to watch for a set duration or proportion. YouTube kept it and renamed it engaged views. That older number still governs Shorts ad revenue share and Partner Programme eligibility. So the headline view count on a Short and the number behind the payment are measuring two different things. Engaged views are also the number to compare across that date, since they apply the same way on both sides of it. The plain view count does not.
