The first hire most channels make and the one they most often get wrong. Rates swing enormously with turnaround, complexity and where the editor lives, and paying per video only works when the brief is fixed enough that both sides agree what a video is.

What makes it work is a documented style: a template project, reference videos, a written note on pacing, captions and music, and feedback given as timecoded notes. Expect the first three edits to cost you more time than editing them yourself would have. That is the training cost, and quitting before it clears is why most creators end up back at the timeline.
