Server role
Also called: Discord role, roles, linked roles
Roles carry channel access, posting rights and moderation powers, and one member can hold several at once with the permissions stacking. Creators use them to run a members-only area: connect the Discord to the YouTube channel and each membership tier maps to its own role, so access is granted when somebody joins and withdrawn when they lapse. Discord calls the mechanism linked roles. The usual setup mistake is piling permissions onto the everyone role instead of a specific one, which quietly hands the whole server the keys to the private channels.
