The recognisable version is a split screen: a story, a forum thread read aloud or a film clip on top, with Subway Surfers or soap cutting running below. The second layer holds the eye while the first carries the information, working on the same principle as a fidget toy by giving the viewer something to look at during the gaps where they might otherwise swipe.
Sludge is cheap to produce, which explains how much of it exists, and it converts badly into anything else. A viewer who finished one has no reason to remember whose channel it was.
