Storyboard

Each panel represents one shot: what is in frame, roughly how it is composed, and often a note on the camera movement or the line of dialogue over it. Drawing ability is beside the point. Stick figures with arrows do the job perfectly well. The value is discovering on paper that a sequence does not work, at the stage where changing it costs a rubber and a minute. Full boards earn their keep on scripted pieces, animation, adverts and anything involving a crew. For a talking-head video most creators use a shot list instead, which captures the same intent without any of the drawing.
