YouTube Studio gives you the controls: hold potentially inappropriate comments for review, hold everything for review, block a list of words, and promote trusted regulars to approved users or moderators. Moderation is the work of using them week after week. Left alone, a comment section fills with scams impersonating your channel, and the viewers who get burned blame you rather than the impersonator. Most creators over-index on deleting criticism. They under-index on deleting the fake giveaway replies, which are the ones that cost somebody real money. Set the filters once, then give the queue 10 minutes a day while a video is still pulling traffic.
