Factories price around setup, so a custom product carries a floor: a few hundred units of an embroidered hoodie, considerably more for anything needing a mould or a bespoke component. Meet the floor and the unit cost drops to something you can sell at a profit; fall under it and either nobody quotes you at all or the price stops making sense.
Print on demand exists to sidestep the problem: no minimum, and a much thinner margin on every sale. Creators get caught treating the MOQ as the only number that matters, when storage, shipping, returns and the stock that never sells all follow the order. The first question is how many you can realistically shift.
