Morality clause

Also called: morals clause, conduct clause

Standard in sponsorship paperwork and usually drafted wide, it can be triggered by a conviction, by public controversy, or by conduct that in the brand's reasonable opinion brings them into disrepute. Two details decide how dangerous the clause is. Whether the trigger is objective or left to the brand's own judgement, and whether it reaches backwards to claw back money already paid or only ends the deal going forward. Ask for a mutual version so the same standard binds the brand, and push for a defined trigger with notice and a chance to put things right.
