Branded content

Also called: brand-funded content, brand content

The brand pays, the creator makes it and hosts it, and the audience arrives through the channel rather than through an ad buy. That is the line between branded content and an advert. The brand is borrowing the trust and the format instead of renting a slot. Disclosure is required by law in most markets and by YouTube's rules, which means switching on the paid promotion setting when you publish plus a plain spoken or written mention. Creators price this well above a sponsor read, because they are handing over editorial control of a whole video and the channel carries the reputational risk if the product turns out to be poor.
