Content Franchise

Also called: franchise, format franchise, signature series

The test is whether people ask for the next one. A franchise has a repeatable premise, a recognisable title pattern and usually consistent packaging, so a viewer spots the next instalment without reading the description. Building one changes the weekly job, because the format is settled and the work becomes finding the next instance of it. The risk is running one past its point. A franchise ages as its premise gets familiar, and the slide is slow enough that it is easy to keep making them out of habit.
