Non-compete clause

Also called: restraint clause

Three things decide what a non-compete actually costs you: how long it runs, how widely the category is drawn, and whether it covers all your content or only sponsored slots. A month of exclusivity on energy drinks is a minor concession. Twelve months on beverages closes off a whole sector of your inbox for one video's fee. Courts in the UK will only uphold restraints that are reasonable in scope and duration, though establishing that afterwards is expensive. Price the clause properly and diary the end date, because these routinely outlast the campaign.
