Channel Strategy & Niche

Tentpole Content

Also called: tentpole video, event video

The name comes from film studios, where one large release holds up a whole season. On a channel it might be an anniversary video, a documentary, a collaboration or a format-defining swing, and the smaller videos around it are planned to feed it and to catch anybody it brings in.

The planning is the point. A tentpole that lands with nothing behind it wastes the new audience, so the surrounding weeks want related videos, a playlist and an obvious next watch. The other trap is scale for its own sake, since an expensive video with no better idea inside it is just an expensive video.
