Channel Strategy & Niche

Unique Selling Proposition

Also called: USP, unique selling point, differentiator

Rosser Reeves put the idea into advertising in the 1950s: one specific claim, repeated, that competitors either cannot make or have not made. On YouTube it answers a blunt question about your channel, and that answer is what lets dozens of channels on the same subject all survive. One cooking channel owns thirty-minute meals from a single supermarket shop while another owns restaurant technique for home kitchens. Where it goes wrong is picking something true but invisible. Quality and passion are claims every channel makes, so neither separates you from anyone. If a viewer cannot state your difference in a sentence after two videos, you have not got one yet.
